Bitfinex has been added to the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s warning list of firms that may be promoting financial services or products without proper authorization. The regulatory body said the crypto platform “is not authorized by us and may be targeting people in the UK”. Bitfinex said it had been in talks with the FCA and had proactively taken steps to meet its requirements, including blocking a range of website pages for UK visitors. The FCA’s new financial promotion rules apply to unregistered crypto asset firms promoting their services across a wide range of media, including social media and online advertising.
