Ethereum’s [ETH] Vitalik Buterin: “My praise for BitTorrent had nothing to do with Tron”

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, a leading smart contract platform, spoke up about his previous comments on BitTorrent, via his official Twitter handle. The statement by Vitalik was in response to Justin Sun’s recent tweet.

Justin Sun was seen commenting on Buterin’s interview with Vice, which was released in April 2018. Taking BitTorrent as an example, Buterin explained the initial idea of Bitcoin and blockchain mechanism. To this, Sun said,

“hahahaha why he is so obsessed with #BitTorrent? I don’t understand.”

However, Vitalik was quick to respond, with him stating that the interview dated back to 2017, whereas the Torrent platform was acquired by Tron after the interview in the month of July 2019. On a different Twitter thread he added,

“My praise for bittorrent had nothing to do with Tron. This is like implying that because I like avocados, I approve of everyone who has ever bought an avocado.”

To this, Justin Sun replied:

“We all love avocados. I acquired all avocado farms and reached to monopoly. Now if you still love avocados you have to listen to me. However, I am happy to give you free avocados for sure!”

This is not the first time Justin Sun spoke about Vitalik Buterin’s comment on BitTorrent. Previously, Sun expressed his gratitude to Buterin for stating that BitTorrent was one of the decentralized platforms that proved to have a real long-lasting use case for dApps and that the Torrent platform was a “metagame success.”

This was soon followed by Buterin responding to Sun’s statement by picking an old tweet by Elon Musk – “Entropy is the ultimate boss battle.” Here, Buterin had stated,

“Did I hear entropy? Well I happen to be making an ICO called entropy token and it looks like $elonmusk supports it! $ETT #ETT 𝄞ETT! Whitepaper soon!”

This was followed by another tweet, where he stated that he was “making fun of Twitter shills” who were taking his previous comments on VPS and BitTorrent “out of context.”

Udi Wertheimer, a Twitter user said,

“Justin Sun is like a Bizarro-world version of you. He just optimized your formula. If people get excited about blockchains even though they are useless, why bother saying things that are true? Just say random words and sprinkle “blockchain” in between. Naturally this works well”

ABlock, another user of the Twitterverse said,

“No one was saying that you were praising Tron You were praising BitTorrent because of its decentralised product that can scale to millions and millions of people It is obvious that you were using it as a example.BitTorrent will solve the problem that you are talking about.”
