Litecoin [LTC] releases its new v0.16.2; interesting tweaks observed in the protocol

On 8th September, a new version of Litecoin called Litecoin Core v0.16.2 was released, as announced by the official Medium blog for the cryptocurrency. The release contains minor tweak with added features, multiple bugfixes and improvement in performance and more. The update was also posted on Twitter by the official Twitter handle of the Litecoin project, as claimed by the party.

The blog post also highlighted several significant changes made in this release, related to compatibility, miner block size and suchlike. Subsequently, it issued warnings regarding a possibility of bugs, despite the heavy testing undergone by the version.

Currently, Litecoin Core is compatible with a number of operating systems such as macOS 10.8+, Linux Kernel, Windows Vista and later versions. However, the post stated that Windows XP is not included on the list. Apart from the tested systems, LTC may work on Unix-like systems as well but is not guaranteed to do so due to infrequent tests on them.

Another interesting modification in the release is the removal of miner block size. In the 0.15.1 version of Litecoin Core, miners deprecated the option known as ‘-blockmaxsize provided to limit their block sizes. In this version, the feature has been removed. However, -blockmaxweight option will give miners the freedom to limit their block weight.

Recently, Charlie Lee, the Founder of Litecoin posted a Twitter poll for his followers wherein he intended to find the most popular choice for a privacy protocol integration, among the LTC community. Here, he provided the community with four options: Confidential Transactions, ZK-Snarks/ZK-Starks, MimbleWimble, no privacy at all. The majority of votes were allocated to Confidential Transaction.

This week, the Litecoin network also received Casa LN Node support, which was a contributing factor to the LTC Lightning Network. The support will be added on the Casa Lightning Node in the latter part of 2018.

cryptofuture4me enthusiastically responded to the release on Reddit, indicating towards an idea for wider LTC adoption. The user wrote:

“From where I can buy Litecoin bumper sticker to advertise LTC with my car? My car is a toyota corolla silver grey. Thanks for any good suggestion LTC family! I’m from IL”
