XRP [XRP] to be added by Wirex, speculations of SBI partnership come into play

According to recent reports, Wirex Wallet is considering XRP [XRP] to their lineup of offered cryptocurrencies. Wirex is a service provider that offers cryptocurrency wallets tied to Visa and Mastercard services for easier use.

This was confirmed by Pavel Matveev on his Twitter account, who stated that it might be “coming sooner than you think”.

Notably, Wirex Wallet partnered with Japanese banking giant SBI Holdings late last year, with a goal to provide Bitcoin [BTC] and cryptocurrency wallet to increase adoption. Japanese audiences have already had an established experience with Wirex, and are said to be the “most enthusiastic supporters” of the service. The CEO of Wirex, Pavel Mateev, stated [2017]:

“Japanese customers use our VISA-backed cryptocurrency debit card more regularly than anywhere else in the world. They deserve a Yen denominated card soon and we will deliver it to them.”

Wirex co-founder Dmitry Lazarichev also commented on the partnership, stating:

“The SBI Group has a clear vision and in-depth understanding of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. We have been selective in the process of looking for the right investor, and finding the best possible fit is important for us. Our customers will greatly benefit from this collaboration.”

SBI Group, on the other hand, is one of the biggest banking groups in Japan. They recently launched a cryptocurrency exchange backed by them, representing the movement of institutional investors into this space. Their CEO, Yoshitaka Kitao, is known for being a big supporter of XRP. In an interview with Ripple, he said:

“Not only does it have a clear use case, XRP is faster, cheaper and more scalable than any other digital asset. I strongly believe it will become the global standard in digital currencies.”

The partnership came after SBI Group invested $3 million in Wirex. This is keeping in mind that SBI Group wishes to “build up its expertise in the DLT and cryptocurrency realm”. A potential introduction of XRP into the already established market for Wirex in Japan could be what catapults the adoption of the coin into the mainstream, say speculators.

“Considering a little fundraising via SBI in 2017 got Wirex around $3million, I’d say this has to be taken seriously.”
