‘Blockchain Firewall’ is now a reality with R3’s release of Corda Enterprise

Developments in the blockchain industry is an everyday occurrence as each one tries to surpass the other. R3, the blockchain startup, with its recent announcement is trying to surpass the others with its latest offering. On 10th July 2018, R3 released Corda Enterprise, the paid version of its Corda blockchain technology with added benefits. The features include:

  • 24/7 support
  • Disaster recovery
  • Superior connectivity between nodes

Corda Enterprise’s ‘blockchain firewall’ is a stand out feature that R3 offers. Promoted to be the first of its kind, the firewall is Corda’s check system that aims to enable limited communication between blockchain nodes in different environments. This is said to benefit a lot of companies who conduct their operations behind firewalls to ensure maximum safety and encryption.

Richard Brown, the CTO of the company stated that the vision of this platform is to “achieve the best of both worlds” by keeping connectivity as the paramount factor between Corda nodes running in closed and open systems. Brown also said that:

“The firewall feature protects the Corda node from the outside whilst allowing through just the traffic that should come through. We are at the point where the first I often hear of a Corda usage is when the project issues a press release, or we see questions on our Slack channel.”

R3 believes that interoperability will be the norm of the future and Corda has already chosen that path. Brown states:

“If I deploy a set of Corda nodes over to the left and then deploy a set of Corda nodes over to the right, it would be a tragedy if they couldn’t interoperate with each other,”

Additional features of the platform include:

  • Real world optimization.
  • Oracle and SQL server support.
  • Cross-distribution and cross-version wire compatibility.

Richard Brown also commented :

“Traditional permissionless blockchain platforms, in which all data is shared with all parties, have issues around privacy, scalability and interoperability that render them largely unsuited for global business. This is the problem Corda was designed to solve and it is gaining adoption at a rapid pace across a range of industries. However many enterprises – especially larger ones – face unique technical constraints. Corda Enterprise fine tunes Corda for these firms so that they can adopt blockchain technology in a way that is straightforward and natural. The launch of the platform is a watershed moment for business blockchain technology.”
