Kaliningrad, the capital city of a Russian province will be hosting few of the events of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in its Arena Baltika between June 14th and July 15th. This is the first Mundial to be held in Russia.
The Championship is played at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities, out of which 4 are hosted by Kaliningrad. They have surprised the football and cryptocurrency fanatics with their latest news about accepting Bitcoin payments for accommodation when they visit Russia during the football season.
The hotels in Kaliningrad are expecting guests from 8 different countries, namely, Belgium, Croatia, England, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Spain, and Switzerland. They have partnered up with several local payment providers to assist them in the services.
Anna Subbotina, the Manager of Apartments Malina says:

Malina is collaborating with one of the payment providers in Russia which allow Bitcoin transactions.
The accommodation charges hiked up right before the World Cup. According to a PR Director of Aviasales Travel, for booking a room on the 28th of June, the day England plays against Belgium, one room will approximately cost about ₽18,000 RUB [$300]. This is 10 times more than the regular cost for the hotels. Apart from Kaliningrad, the other hosting cities have also hiked their prices similarly.
Vitaliy Lavrov, the Development Manager at Free-Kassa says:
“This is an interesting experience for us – we haven’t worked with hotels so far. The hospitality industry is quite sensitive towards new trends”
